Creator and presenter Caren Sullivan introduces her popular podcast/videocast series Ultraviolet Art Talks, exploring the human side of artists, curators, musicians and people involved in the art world, ahead of a new season this July.
Ultraviolet Art is a project I created to support the Irish art scene. It started as a research project back in 2019, having face-to-face conversations with artists at different stages of their careers, as well as gallery directors, curators and collectors, to hear what the art community in Ireland needs in order to get to the next level. The concept involves creating spaces for mentoring artists and facilitating collaborations.
In 2020, when the pandemic arrived, the project paused and Ultraviolet Art Talks was launched to provide a platform for the art community in Ireland and globally.
My interviews are focused on a combination of the human side of the artist and their practice, featuring unusual and sometimes uncomfortable questions nobody else was asking, generating necessary conversations, breaking taboos in the Irish art scene. I wanted to take a fresh approach, with curiosity and respect for these creative minds and their art. Irish conceptual artist Jonathan Mayhew collaborates with physical editing, motion graphics and filming studio visits.

Available across all popular podcast formats, the talks were initially aimed at artists, curators, art institutions and collectors; over 200 editions later, we're broadened that audience to include art enthusiasts worldwide.

More recently, Ultraviolet Art Talks is doing face-to-face interviews in the intimate space of the artist's studio, where you can get a more in-depth look of what is like to be an artist.
Being also an art collector and having a background in fashion fesign, art has always been part of my life. It gives us the opportunity to explore our inner and outer world, it invites us to dream. Art is freedom!
