Frank McGuinness is one of our greatest writers. He is best known for plays such as The Factory Girls, Observe The Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Carthaginians and Someone Who'll Watch Over Me as well as his adaptations of Ibsen. He has also written novels, songs, operas and poetry.
In fact it was with poetry that McGuinness started out, sending some of his poems to the late David Marcus at the Irish Press. "You are a writer", he was told, and off he went.
And it was poetry that he wrote during lockdown, and we are now blessed with a new collection called The River Crana, published by The Gallery Press. He talks to RTÉ Arena above.
