This May, the Regional Cultural Centre (RCC) in Letterkenny will host a special event commemorating a landmark moment in Irish sporting history: Donegal's first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship victory, achieved on September 20th, 1992.
The event will feature a full screening of the historic final, in which Donegal defeated Dublin, accompanied by a live musical performance.
The original soundtrack has been composed by musician Brian Dillon, who will be joined by Ben Bix, Caitriona Finegan, and Molly O’Shea.
The four-piece ensemble will perform music composed specifically to reflect the emotion and drama of the match.
Donegal's 1992 triumph is considered a pivotal moment in GAA history, inspiring other so-called "non-traditional" counties to aim for success. It marked the beginning of a more competitive era in Gaelic football and hurling during the 1990s.
In addition to the match itself, the event will include footage from the build-up to the final and explore the roles of key figures from the Donegal team, including manager Brian McEniff, team captain Anthony Molloy, and players such as Declan Bonner and Martin McHugh.
The event forms part of the annual SOUND! Festival, which celebrates the art of music and sound in film.
Dillon, a GAA fan originally from Tipperary, described the project as a long-held ambition. While his background is more closely associated with hurling, he expressed excitement at the opportunity to combine his love of GAA with music in a community-focused setting.
