Bring the noise - guitar legend Thurston Moore talks to RTÉ Arena

Thurston Moore, the guitarist and founding member of Sonic Youth is known for his role in shaping the sound of alternative rock from the 1980s onward, blending experimental noise, punk energy, and art-rock sensibilities.

His recently published memoir, Sonic Life, chronicled his journey from a music-obsessed teenager in small-town Connecticut to the heart of New York's underground scene, where Sonic Youth emerged as one of the most influential bands of their generation. Alongside reflections on his personal life, the book provided a vivid account of the post-punk and No Wave movements that shaped his career.

Moore is set to appear at this year's New Music Dublin festival, bringing his signature avant-garde style to the National Concert Hall with his new work called Guitar Explorations of Cloud Formations.

He spoke to Kay Sheehy on Arena about how much he enjoys playing in Ireland and about the legendary Sir Henrys show in Cork in 1991, when a then-unknown Nirvana were the support act - listen above.

Thurston Moore performs Guitar Explorations of Cloud Formations at the National Concert Hall, Dublin on April 5th - find out more here, and listen to more from RTÉ Arena here.
