Ireland's largest and longest-running sculpture exhibition, Sculpture in Context, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a landmark exhibition at the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin this autumn.
Running for five weeks from 4th September 2025, the event will offer a showcase of contemporary sculpture set against the backdrop of one of Ireland’s most beloved natural settings.
Sculpture in Context was founded by artists Cliodna Cussen, Gerard Cox and Colm Brennan with the aim of bringing sculpture beyond traditional gallery settings.

First held in 1985, the annual event has grown to become a vital platform for three-dimensional art, featuring work by some of Ireland's most acclaimed sculptors alongside emerging talent, and drawing over 120,000 visitors each year.
To mark their 40th anniversary, Sculpture in Context has launched an open call inviting artists from across the spectrum to submit work for inclusion in the 2025 exhibition.
Submissions are welcome in all media, and selected works will be displayed both outdoors throughout the gardens and within the gallery space of the historic glasshouses.
A panel of independent judges will select up to 100 pieces exploring the interplay between art and nature.
The open call is now live and will remain open until 11:59 pm on 25 April 2025 - find out more here.
