Saw Doctors manager turned down Bob Geldof

In the fourth episode of broadcaster Sean O'Rourke’s RTÉ podcast, Insights, Sean returns to his native Galway to enjoy a cuppa while engaging in conversation with manager of The Saw Doctors, Ollie Jennings - listen above.

Ollie manages one of the longest running and successful Irish bands of all time; The Saw Doctors hold the record for the country's all-time biggest-selling single I Useta Lover and continue to delight new audiences. performing on the main stage at Electric Picnic for the last two years.

The band's "comeback" continues, with tickets to their shows in Germany going on sale this week. Not only that, but they can count former US president Joe Biden as a fan of their work.

The Saw Doctors remain a popular live favourite

Ollie Jennings is quoted as saying "a manager is never meant to take centre stage", but he made an exception for his conversation with Sean O’Rourke.

For Insights, he discusses the early days of the band that would go on to enjoy huge success within Ireland and the UK, as well as his pioneering work with the Galway Arts Festival and the internationally acclaimed theatre company Macnas, his difficult relationship with school and academia, and the shrewd commercial move that means the Saw Doctors are not only a popular band but also a thriving business.

He also reveals turning down an offer of work from Sir Bob Geldof, and revisits the time he brought folk legends The Chieftains to leisureland in Galway!
