A few years ago, when Covid restrictions were hampering retail trade everywhere, the landlady of Georges Street Arcade in Dublin, Gwen Layden, allowed her tenants to hold off on rent. When universal restrictions ended, stall holders could pay in phases while their bruised businesses picked up.
And when, a couple of years later, the first Ukrainians arrived in Ireland as refugees from war at home, Gwen Layden offered to help by covering rent, insurance, and start-up costs for a stall in the market...
