Bird Songs with Seán Ronayne: The Herring Gull

To celebrate the beginning of spring in the Gaelic calendar, ornithologist Seán Ronayne is across the schedule on RTÉ lyric fm with a new series to discuss the distinct bird songs, melodies and calls that we have today in Ireland. Listen to Sean harmonize about the Herring Gull above...

About The Herring Gull: Although in recent years they have begun to colonise urban areas, they're traditionally a bird of the sea. Herring gulls are tough birds, even in the strongest of Atlantic gales they float effortlessly in the salty, froth-laden air, almost laughing in the face of it. Their call is wonderful; a lyrical sea-shanty that jingles and dances, and tells tales of their ocean roots.
