Martin Hayes selects his fave trad tunes for The Rolling Wave

Fiddle player Martin Hayes grew up in Feakle in Co Clare in a house where music was cherished, respected and loved.

His father was the well-known fiddle player PJ Hayes and his uncle was the great Paddy Canny - from a young age Martin travelled with them playing music all over the country with the Tulla Céilí Band.

For The Rolling Wave, Martin talks to Aoife Nic Cormaic about music to which he returns all the time, recordings which he describes as 'formative recordings', ‘the foundation’ of his music.

The selection features music from PJ Hayes, Paddy Canny, The Tulla Céilí Band, Tommie Potts, Noel Hill, Tony MacMahon, Darach Ó Catháin, Frankie Gavin, Alec Finn and Mary MacNamara - listen above.
