FILM: DOG MAN

Those with younger readers in their vicinity might well be familiar with the literary phenomenon that is Dav Pilkey's book series, chronicling the adventures of the eponymous half-canine, half-human crime fighter, sworn to protect and serve - and fetch, sit and roll over. Now he's making the leap to the big screen an animated spectacular from Dreamworks, the studio behind Shrek, Kung-Fu Panda and, most recently, The Wild Robot. Make no mistake, if you're under 10, this is a major cultural event (Cinemas nationwide)

ALTERNATELY... JEANNE DIELMAN

The greatest film of all time... or the greatest film about time? Or both? Voted Sight and Sound magazine's Greatest Film of All Time in their influential 2022 Critics’ poll, Chantal Akerman’s cinematically radical film challenged the status quo when it was originally released 50 years ago. This anniversary re-release gives audiences a welcome opportunity to enjoy a slow cinema classic on the big screen (Selected cinemas nationwide)

STREAMING: VIETNAM - THE WAR THAT CHANGED AMERICA

Narrated by Ethan Hawke, this six-part docuseries tells the story of the war through the eyes and memories of the people who lived it, 50 years later, via the reunion of old friends and comrades, first-person accounts and never-before-seen archival footage of the people who lived it, painting a deeply profound picture of what it was like to live through one of history's longest wars (Apple TV+, now streaming)

THEATRE: DR. STRANGELOVE

As one the most chameleonic comedy actors of his generation, Steve Coogan has often drawn comparisons to the late, great Peter Sellers - now, in Armando Iannucci's stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick's 1964 war satire, he tackles a trio of iconic Sellers roles - adding an extra one to boot! Iannucci chats Strangelove with Oliver Callan below (Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Dublin, until February 22nd 2025)
