Last Sunday on the Rolling Wave, three renowned sean nós singers, Nell Ní Chróinín, Éamon Ó Donnchadha and Ciarán Ó Gealbháin joined Aoife to talk about some of the amazing sean nós singing recordings in RTÉ's recently digitised acetate disc collection - listen above.
The full collection covers the period from the 1930s to the 1970s and there are about two hundred recordings of sean nós singing which date from the late 1940s up to the 1960s.
Featured singers include Seán Ac Dhonncha, Máire Ní Cheocháin, Nioclás Tóibín and many more including some, as yet, un-named singers.
Pádraic Mac Mathúna has been working with this collection in the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA), and he also joins Aoife on the show. This is the second collaboration between ITMA and The Rolling Wave, delving into the riches of RTÉ's acetate collection - the first one focused on Sligo fiddle playing.
