An initiative of the Arts Council, the role of the Laureate seeks to acknowledge the contribution of fiction writers to Irish artistic and cultural life.
Brooklyn and Long Island author Colm Tóibín was announced as the third Laureate for Irish Fiction in 2022, following in the footsteps of inaugural Laureate Anne Enright (2015–2018) and Sebastian Barry (2018-2021).
