The Ferryman reviewed - Arena on the theatre event of the season

Set in 1981, on a family farm in Co. Armagh, The Ferryman by Jez Butterworth opened last week at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin.

Absent but still at the heart of the extended Carney clan who live there is Seamus, who went missing in 1971, one of the 'disappeared', people who fell foul of the IRA for one reason or another during the Troubles.

Andrew Flynn directs an impressive cast led by Charlene McKenna as Seamus’ wife Caitlin and Aaron McCusker as his brother Quinn. Niall Buggy, Bríd Ní Neachtain, Anna Healy and Sarah Morris are just some of the other Carneys who bring the story to life.

Chris O’Rourke went to see The Ferryman for Arena - listen to his review above.
