Bird Songs with Seán Ronayne: The Robin

To celebrate the beginning of spring in the Gaelic calendar, ornithologist Seán Ronayne is across the schedule on RTÉ lyric fm with a new series to discuss the distinct bird songs, melodies and calls that we have today in Ireland. Listen to Sean rhapsodize about the robin above...

About The Robin: The happy-go-lucky pet dog of the bird world; robins are one of Ireland's most beautiful songsters. With a lyrically fluid and merry tune, these birds are vocally active throughout the year, no matter the weather. In summer they sing to impress and to woo. And in the off-season they sing to guard their patch of food and shelter, to see them through the colder months. Their high-pitched rolling notes warm our souls in even the darkest and dankest of winter evenings.
