FILM: THE BRUTALIST

Whatever way you look at it, Brady Corbet's Oscar nominated drama is an epic; a three-hour-plus running time (plus intermission), shot on celluloid in the VistaVision format and screening in 70mm and at IMAX cinemas. Then there's the subject matter - escaping postwar Europe, a visionary architect (Adrien Brody) comes to America to rebuild his life; settling in Pennsylvania, a wealthy industrialist (Guy Pearce) recognises his talent and commissions the project of a lifetime. It's an movie that aims high, and positively demands to be seen on the big screen (Cinemas nationwide, out now)

THEATRE: THE FERRYMAN

On the subject of epics, the Gaiety host the Irish premiere of Jez Butterworth's monumental family tale - set in County Armagh, circa 1981; it's a tale of 'betrayal, redemption and the totality of the human experience' featuring a cast of 21, a live baby, a live goose and a live rabbit! And what a cast: Aaron McCusker, Alex Murphy, Anna Healy, Charlene McKenna, Sarah Morris and veteran acting legend Niall Buggy, for starters. RTÉ Arena takes a deeper dive below (Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, 27th Jan - 15th Mar)
