Don Bosco's anchor from the failed Armada fleet was still stuck in the low-tide shoreline of Inishbofin, so my day-trip to the island must have been long before the OPW finally winched it away to some dry-dock interpretive museum.

The bishop was supposed to have arrived there by boat that same morning at the head of the traditional flotilla, but he came instead by helicopter, which rankled with the locals...
