This December, RTÉ is delighted to support Library Ireland Week, with events taking place across the country from 1st-7th December.
In addition, the RTÉ Supporting the Arts scheme will support 15 other arts and cultural events nationwide, spanning theatre, film, art, music, opera, ballet, festivals, and more.
Several music, dance and theatre events will tour the country this month, including Nutcracker Sweeties, which will bring audiences on a magical journey full of Christmas cheer. The Irish Baroque Orchestra will perform their annual production of Handel's Messiah and Bach's Christmas Oratorio celebrating the nativity story with performances in Dublin, Wexford, and Kilkenny. While the Drogheda Classical Music Concert Series in Louth, will bring some of the world’s most renowned musicians to Ireland’s north-east.
In Dublin, the Royal Irish Academy of Music’s Wigmore Series will host an array of music performances, the Irish National Youth Ballet Company will present The Nutcracker in Trinity College, while Sing for Simon with the RTÉ Orchestra and special guests will offer a magical night of heartfelt music and festive cheer at the Helix.
Dublin’s Abbey Theatre presents Spreading the News, a celebration of 120 years of the National Theatre of Ireland, in partnership with RTÉ. There is also lots more theatre to enjoy with James Joyce’s The Dead continuing at the Museum of Literature Ireland, while The Ark will present The Giggler Treatment, a marvellous, mischievous new musical based on the novel by Roddy Doyle for children and grown-ups alike.
