Culture Night 2024 returns to RTÉ on September 20th with a joyful celebration of our cultural landscape across TV, radio and online.
For the occasion, RTÉ Culture welcomes Artist In Residence Aideen Barry, who will curate the content on rte.ie/culture for the day.
Born in Cork, Aideen Barry is an acclaimed visual artist; she has received numerous awards for her practice and has exhibited her work extensively in Ireland and internationally.
In 2020, she was elected to the Royal HIibernian Academy (RHA) as an ARHA member; she is also a member of Aosdána and lectures in several universities and schools of visual art.
Aideen is also one of the judges for this year's installment of the popular RTÉ children's art competition This Is Art!
The centrepiece of RTÉ Culture's Culture Night celebrations online is a screening of Aideen Barry's stunning stop-motion feature film Klostės.
After the First World War, Kaunas became the provisional capital of a new progressive state of Lithuania; originally commissioned for the Kaunas 2022 European Capital of Culture, Klostės takes inspiration from the city's modernist inter-war architecture.
Shot in 16 locations and involving over one hundred contemporary residents of Kaunas, the film is an enchanting surrealist escapade for both the spectator and the characters where the past interacts with the future, the living with the dead, and architectural details take on their own persona.
Klostės will be available to watch on RTÉ Culture from Friday 20th - Monday 23rd September.
