"Watching this year's Olympics I cast my mind back to the summer of 1980, and the Moscow Olympics.
I was indeed fortunate to have been selected as a member of the RTÉ commentary team, led by Tim O’Connor, Head of Television, and Ian Corr, Head of Radio – both titans of sports broadcasting in Ireland.
The hotel we stayed in was one of many built specifically for the games. The staff spoke English and the chatty manager adopted us as "his happy Irish team"....."
