FILM: KNEECAP

Fresh from a trio of wins (Best Irish Film, Best Irish Language Feature Film and the Audience Award) at this year's Galway Film Fleadh, along with a prize at the Sundance Film Festival, this rousing biopic tells the wild story of the controversial West Belfast hip-hop trio - Kneecap, naturally, play themselves, with Michael Fassbender as their dad. In what's shaping up to be a great year for Irish film, this is a must (Cinemas nationwide from August 8th)

ART: TIME AND TIME AGAIN

In an inspired notion, the Hugh Lane Gallery present a thought-provoking exhibition developed and curated by eleven transition year students from Dublin city secondary schools, working from the Lane's permanent collection of works spanning 100 years to explore the themes and narratives that 'define growing up, reaching the present moment, and anticipating the future of society' - featured artists include Harry Clarke, Diana Copperwhite, Louis le Brocquy, Willie Doherty and Alice Maher (Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, until September 22nd, 2024)

ARCHITECTURE: THE REASON OF TOWNS

Curated, commissioned and produced by the Irish Architecture Foundation, this new travelling exhibition explores the work of one of Ireland's most renowned architects, Valerie Mulvin, and the tradition and future of the Irish Town - it's intended to become a public occasion for the telling and retelling of true stories, lost traditions and possible futures for our towns and the people who live in them (From August 1st, John's Hall, Birr, Co. Offaly, then touring)

THEATRE: WICKED

The blockbuster musical returns for a Dublin run ahead of the screen version (or at least the first installment) landing in cinemas this Christmas; for the unitiated, it imagines the beguiling backstory of The Wizard of Oz, portraying the events that shape the destinies of two unlikely university friends on their journey to becoming Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. The songs, by (Bord Gais Energy Theatre, until 14th September 2024)

BOOK: THE BOOK OF ELSEWHERE

We do like to mix it up... For his literary debut, the inimitable Keanu Reeves and 'fantastic fiction' writer China Miéville team up for a genre-bending epic of ancient powers, modern war, and an outcast who cannot die - due to be played (naturally) by Keanu in the forthcoming Netflix adaptaion (Del Ray, out now)
