ART: NOW YOU SEE IT...

Ahead of its closure for a major redevelopment and restoration, The Crawford Art Gallery gathers a diverse range of artworks from the Crawford collection presented across two floors, as selected by gallery-goers, and featuring works by heavy-hitters like Dorothy Cross, Louis le Brocquy, Mainie Jellett, and Patrick Scott alongside recent acquisitions from a diverse array of local, national, and international artists (Crawford Gallery, Cork 20th July - 15 September 2024)

THEATRE: DANCING AT LUGHNASA

The big summer show at Dublin's Gate Theatre is a welcome revival of Brian Friel's masterpiece about family, home and belonging, set in Friel's mythical Donegal town of Bunbeg circa 1936, as the Mundy sisters welcome their brother Jack home from the missions in Africa, signalling a chain of events that will change their lives forever; directed by Caroline Byrne, the impressive ensemble includes Zara Devlin, Lauren Farrell, Peter Gowen, Jack Meade and Ruth McGill (Gate Theatre, Dublin, until Sretember 21st)

MUSIC: FOREST FEST

Now in its third year, this winning music festival takes place in the picturesque Laois village of Emo, and boasts a sterling line-up of acts that includes (deep breath) The Human League, The Cult, Ocean Colour Scene, The Divine Comedy, Dexys, Tony Hadley, Paul Brady, The Stunning, The Undertones. The Frank & Walters, EMF, Stereo MC's, the Wedding Present, King Kong Company and many, many more (Emo, Laois, July 19th-21st)

STREAMING: SKYWALKERS: A LOVE STORY

Russian couple Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus are "rooftoppers"– they scale the tallest buildings in the world and film their exploits. This heart-stopping documentary explores the lengths - and heights - the duo go to to pull off their highly illicit activities, wrapped in an attempt to climb a new 2,200ft skyscraper in Kala Lumpur (Netflix, now streaming)

EVENT: THE SOUND OF THE NORTHSIDE

Get ready for the sound of the summer! From from viral sensation The Spark, their rap anthem with Lisdoonvarna Crew for Cruinniú na nÓg 2024, the Kabin Studio present a new collaborative project with Irish National Opera, which sees the Cork crew perform specially tailored arrangements of their music on The Everyman Theatre stage accompanied by the INO orchestra. And yes, the junior Kabin and Lisdoonvara Crew will be there for a reprise of that song... (The Everyman Cork, Monday 22 July)
