Emma Stone revs up in Kinds Of Kindness
Emma Stone revs up in Kinds Of Kindness

EVENT: KALEDISCOPE

We're big fans of this family-friendly music and arts festival, which returns to Russborough House for its 2024 instalment with activities galore for all ages, not to mention a musical line-up that includes The Kooks, The Waterboys, Lyra, Dec Pierce's Block Rockin Beats, a late-night set from King Kong Company and viral rap legends The Kabin Crew & The Lisdoonvarna Crew! (28-30 June 2024, Blessington, Co. Wicklow)

FILM: KINDS OF KINDNESS

Fresh from their Oscar-winning success with Poor Things, director Yorgos Lanthimos, stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qually and Irish production company Element Films reunite for a 'tripdych fable' of darkly absurd tales (Cinemas nationwide)

STREAMING: THE BEAR

Advance details are somewhat scarce for the eagerly anticipated third season of the acclaimed cullinary drama, but if you haven't seen the Chicago-set drama about the staff at a restaurant, then get binging immediately - it's one of the finest TV shows of the modern era (Disney+, all episodes now streaming)

ART: WIFF WAFF* is PLAYING at my GAFF

We love a bit of interactive art, and this showcase of artist-made Krazy Tables from the National Novelty Ping Pong Table Collection have delighted (and frustrated) participants and spectators alike since King Ping Pong started commissioning them in 2016. Better still, you can get a few rounds of ping pong in while you're at it (Crawford Gallery, Cork, until July 7th)

BOOK: THE HEART IN WINTER

Your holiday read is officially sorted - the new novel from the incomparable Kevin Barry is the ever-versatile author's first western, a tale best described as Deadwood meets Badlands with a West Cork spin; it's an instant classic, and at a whip-smart 224 pages you'll fly through it (Canongate, out now)

Hear the Culture 5 every Friday on Aedín in the Afternoon on RTÉ lyric fm, from 1 pm - listen back here.
