Born into an East End family in London, Ray Winstone has been acting since his teens. In the past couple of decades, everyone from Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg to Darren Aronofsky and Robert Zemeckis have fought to work with him. He tals to RTÉ Arena above.
Winstone has starred in the ultra-violent cult classics Scum, Nil by Mouth and Sexy Beast but this week he has two new releases on Netflix – The Gentlemen and Damsel.
In The Gentlemen, Winstone plays Bobby Glass, a career criminal from the East End of London who founded an industrial cannabis empire. It is a spin-off of the 2019 Guy Ritchie film of the same name.
In Damsel, A young woman's marriage to a charming prince turns into a fierce fight for survival when she's offered up as a sacrifice to a fire-breathing dragon. As Lord Bayford, Winstone plays father to Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.
