MUSIC: FESTIVAL OF YOUTH ORCHESTRAS

The annual one-day celebration of Ireland's young orchestral talent returns for its 28th edition, celebrating the extraordinary talent of the nation's musical youth. The 1pm concert features performances from Kylemore Music Centre Orchestra, SETU Budding Bows, Irish Chamber Orchestra Youth Orchestra and Coole Music Youth Orchestra, while the 7.30pm performance will include Music Generation Laois Trad Orchestra, a collaboration between Carlow Youth Orchestra, Kiltra School of Music Youth Orchestra, St Agnes' CCMA Chamber Orchestra and St Peter's NS Orchestra, Ceol na Mara Orchestra and MTU Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra. THEATRE: THE PRESIDENT

In a small, unnamed country, there has been an assassination. However, the gunmen missed their intended targets, the President and the First Lady, killing instead a loyal bodyguard and the First Lady's beloved dog... The theatrical event of the season brings a pair of acting powerhouses - homegrown legend Olwen Fouéré and Australian superstar Hugo Weaving, making his Irish stage debut - to Dublin's Gate Theatre for director Tom Creed's production of Thomas Bernhard's 1975 play. Hankies at the ready... Celebrating it's 10th anniversary, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway star in this Oscar-winning adaptation of the epic musical phenomenon, back in cinemas with a 'boldly remixed and remastered' soundtrack. (Cinemas nationwide, from February 14th)

EVENT: SPIKE CELLO FEST

Dublin's Alternative Cello Festival returns for another weekend of cello-centric, with a particular celebration of female performers of the cello world. Events include performances from Gay-Yee Westerhoff and Eos Counsell from global sensation Bond, Naomi Berrill, Natalie Haas and others, as well as activities for children, free pop up performances across Dublin, and a blissful blend of yoga with live cello accompaniment (Various venues, Dublin from Friday 9th - Sunday 11th February)
