I haven't intended to fall. But that quiet Sunday afternoon had other plans for me. My friend and I had walked with our dogs through the quiet inner streets of Dublin. Lombard Street, Arnott Street, Pleasants Street. We crossed the relative calm of Camden Street and chatted our way under the archway through the lane out on to Harcourt Street and into the Iveagh Gardens.

Our dogs scattered magpies in the sunken lawn, cocked their legs on the fountains’ granite sides, chased shadows in the rose garden. We entered the Museum of Literature Ireland through a narrow gate, stepped into the secret upper garden and from there down into the courtyard café. We ordered blaas stuffed with Mediterranean vegetables – warmed our fingers on the steaming coffee cups and smiled and chatted together...
