John B. Keane's play classic Sive tells the story of a beautiful orphan living with her aunt and uncle in 1950s Kerry, who learns she is to be married off to Seán Dóta, a much older man who can afford to pay the family for his young bride.
Sive is already in love with Liam, a man her own age who returns her feelings. She is nobody’s victim, and she takes matters into her own hands. Tragedy ensues.
Andrew Flynn directs a new production at the Gaiety Theatre, starring stage and screen legend Fionnula Flanagan as the matriarch Nanna Glavin, Norma Sheahan as the complicated Aunt Mena and Sade Malone in the title role.
