Little John Nee tours Nettle Horse to venues nationwide

THEATRE: NETTLE HORSE

Writer, performer and musician Little John Nee is a bona fide national treasure, and his latest one-man tour-de-force weaves storytelling, song, and satire to create a near-future Ireland where hundreds of dispossessed families travel west after winning a lottery orchestrated by an unscrupulous local councillor... It all kicks off this weekend in Cork, then tours nationwide - find a date near you here (10th - 13th Jan, Cork Arts Centre, then touring)

EVENT: THE BOOK OF KELLS EXPERIENCE

A new state-of-the-art Book of Kells Experience at Trinity College Dublin promises to digitally transport visitors into the pages of the legendary illuminated manuscript and the renowned collections of Trinity's Old Library, offering 360° panoramic journey into the book's history, creation and legacy, while also exploring other important works in Trinity's collection (Ongoing, Trinity College Dublin)

THREE LITTLE BIRDS

When a skull is found in Lough Coyne, facial reconstruction expert Dr Carla Steele is drawn into a fourteen-year-old case – but not all cases are cold... The latest crime thriller (her 10th) from Sam Blake offers a masterclass in twisty-turny suspense from the three-time Irish Crime Novel of the Year nominee (Corvus, out now)

TRUE DETECTIVE

After an iconic first series, a notoriously derided second outing and an unerrated third tale, HBO's crime anthology returns with a new installment featuring the incomparable Jodie Foster in her first TV series role in 50 years (!) - which makes this Alaska-set murder-mystery an absolute must-see (Sky and NowTV, new episodes weekly from January 15th)

POOR THINGS

The team behind Oscar winner The Favourite reunite with a delicious (and hilarious) steampunk fantasia, featuring a fearless Emma Stone as a resurected innocent in Victorian England, Willem Dafoe as her Frankenstein-esque guardian and Mark Ruffalo as the cad who corrupts her. The first of two films from Stone, Defoe and director Yorgos Lanthimos due this year, it's an absolute hoot (Cinemas nationwide)
