Famed actor and Cabra-born Irishman Michael Gambon has died, he was 82 - RTÉ Arena remembers an acting giant above.
Gambon was known for his work across TV, film and theatre. In recent years he played Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films. He famously starred in Dennis Potter's acclaimed BBC series The Singing Detective. He was Father Jack in Pat O’Connor’s film adaptation of Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa and Lord Ardilaun in the Thaddeus O’Sullivan directed Citizen Lane.
In theatre he starred in the Gate’s production of Pinter’s No Man’s Land and as the Paycock in Juno and the Paycock at the GaietyTheatre along with numerous Shakespearean and Beckettian roles.
RTÉ Arena are joined joined by Noel Pearson the producer of Dancing at Lughnasa and also producer of the Gaiety Theatre’s Juno and the Paycockl; they are also joined by John Kavanagh who was Joxer to Gambon’s Paycock and worked alongside him on Maigret, and director of Citizen Lane Thaddeus O Sullivan.
