In a once thriving British mining community fallen on hard times after 30 years of decline, landlord TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner) hangs on to his beloved local pub by his fingertips; his predicament is endangered even more when the pub becomes contested territory after the arrival of Syrian refugees in the village. STREAMING: WHEN WES ANDERSON MET ROALD DAHL
Fourteen years after he brought Fantastic Mr. Fox to life, filmmaker Wes Anderson tackles another Roald Dahl adaptation — or rather, four of them. Four new Anderson short films, adaptating Dahl's short stories The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, The Swan, The Rat Catcher, and Poison arrive daily on Netflix this week, featuring an ensemble (playing multiple roles) that includes Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley and Richard Ayoade (Netflix, now streaming)
EVENT: GAA: PEOPLE, OBJECTS & STORIES
Curated by Dr Siobhán Doyle, author of the critically acclaimed A History of the GAA in 100 Objects, this new multi-media exhibition, at the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, offers a fresh perspective on the GAA's influence through the lens of social history, design and popular culture. The exhibition includes objects dating from the 15th century to the present day, including many which will be on public display for the first time (National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, Dublin, ongoing)
