#SAVETHENIGHT - why we need to potect Ireland's nightlife culture

Dublin based underground collective The Shed Residents, are on a mission to save Dublin's dance party scene.

Ahead of a special #SAVETHENIGHT club night in Here & Now on September 29th, Shed Residents co-founder Steven McCabe discusses the challenges faced by thousands of creatives due to a struggling nightlife industry.

We started The Shed Residents in 2021, in the shack of a friend's house as a means to keep busy and occupied during the pandemic.

With a keen interest in electronic music, we began to host small events for friends and slowly but surely began to run club nights. Made up of 14 members, we're an assortment of creative individuals such as graphic designers, videographers and musicians who thrive on each other's love for having a laugh, good music, and throwing parties.

On September 29th in Here & Now, we’re teaming up with Jägermeister as part of the #SAVETHENIGHT initiative to help raise awareness around struggling Dublin nightlife. Berlin based techno juggernaut Dr. Rubinstein will headline, alongside London-based artist Imogen and homegrown DJs such as Jon10 and CULT for a night of eclectic electronic music.

Having no skin in the game when we started, it’s crazy to think we're even in a position to work with these brands and artists. It’s not a job to us, it's our baby - we are extremely passionate about this, just as I’m sure all other collectives feel about their own projects.

When you put so much effort into something and start to see it pay off, that's when you really want to take it further. Hard work and loyalty to your friends can take you anywhere in life.

The aim of #SAVETHENIGHT is to protect nightlife culture in Ireland - giving young promoters a platform to connect with their audiences by creating the best nights, while also raising awareness for the challenges faced by thousands of creatives.

Dublin's nightlife has been struggling immensely over the past few years with the rise of clubs shutting down and licensing laws remaining unchanged, even though there is untapped potential for a thriving nightlife scene in Ireland.

Music lovers, venue owners, promoters and artists themselves are all extremely passionate about making changes and protecting the thing they love so much. Despite the obvious challenges we’re facing, there is a nightlife community in Ireland that is thirsty for more, putting in the hard work, and trying to tap into the great potential the sector has.

#SAVETHENIGHT: Irish Edition is at Here & Now, Dublin on Friday, September 29th, featuring Dr. Rubinstein and a bill of local DJ talents - find out more here.
