FILM: PAST LIVES

The acclaimed debut feature from the Korean-Canadian filmmaker Celine Song tells the story of Nora, a writer who reconnects with the childhood sweetheart she left behind in Seoul when she emigrated with her family to Canada at the age of 12. Decades later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront destiny, love and the choices that make a life (Selected cinemas nationwide)

EVENT: CLIFDEN ARTS FESTIVAL

Ireland's longest-running community arts festival returns for its 46th installment, with a line-up that includes music from Christy Moore, Lisa Hannigan, Paul Noonan, Gemma Hayes and Jack L, visits by the Irish Chamber Orchestra and West Ocean String Quartet, conversations with historian Diarmaid Ferriter, RTÉ's David McCullagh, and the inimitable Francis Brennan, plus artist Rhona Byrne’s installation Bolthole, a chat with local legend Dorothy Cross plus a grand outdoor finale from theatre company LUXE (Various venues, September 13-24)

TV: THE LOVERS

When Seamus unexpectedly drops into Janet's world they instantly clash – and yet also find themselves inextricably drawn to each other… Written by award-winning playwright David Ireland, this Belfast-set dramedy follows the love-struck journey of one oddly paired duo, as played by Johnny Flynn and The Dry's Roisin Gallagher. BOOK: THE LONG GAME

Subtitled Inside Sinn Féin, the debut book from acclaimed journalist Aoife Moore is described as 'a groundbreaking telling of contemporary Ireland's biggest and most elusive political story'. Drawing on exclusive interviews with current and former members of Sinn Féin, she builds up a picture of a party undergoing a profound, and still incomplete, transformation (Sandycove, out now)

EVENT: THE BLEEDING PIG FILM FESTIVAL

Donabate is the location for this event bringing independent Irish film to the local community, with a particular focus on the new wave of emerging Irish female filmmakers, plus a screening of the acclaimed documentary North Circular - all screenings are free, but advance booking is advised (St. Patrick's Church, Donabate, 11th-13th September)
