An acclaimed new play from Belfast's Lyric Theatre dramatizing the events of the Good Friday Agreement will receive a special encore at this year's Electric Picnic festival.
Written by Owen McCafferty, Agreement examines the negotiations leading up to the Good Friday Agreement; the play premiered at the Lyric's Belfast theatre in March this year, as part of the civic events to mark the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Good Friday Agreement.
Agreement won positive reviews, including a 5-star review from The Irish Times, and played to a completely sold out audience over a four week run, including dignitaries Secretary Hillary Clinton and Senator George Mitchell.
During Electric Picnic, the cast of Agreement will perform an extract from the show at MindField as part of the Leviathan Political Cabaret, which is hosted by CNN's Donie O'Sullivan.
Playwright Owen McCafferty will take part in a post-show discussion with O'Sullivan about his play, and its place in the creative and social discourse of the Good Friday Agreement.
Stars of the play who will be performing include Declan Conlon, Richard Croxford, Dan Gordon, Andrea Irvine, Ronan Leahy, Packy Lee and Rufus Wright.
The events are supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, celebrating 25 years of the Good Friday Agreement.
Around 70,000 festival goers are due to travel to Stradbally Hall, Co. Laois for this year's Electric Picnic, which runs from 1-3 September 2023. Find out more about the Mindfield programme at Electric Picnic programme here.
