The Galway Comedy Festival will once again return to the City of the Tribes for the October Bank Holiday weekend.

Taking over the city’s numerous pubs and theatres across seven nights, the festival is set to deliver a star-studded line-up of stand-up, with today's early announcement highlighting a stellar set of solo shows.

Today it was announced that UK superstar John Bishop has been added to the impressive line-up alongside Phill Jupitus, Milton Jones, Seann Walsh, plus Irish legends Deirdre O’Kane, Ardal O’Hanlon, Kevin McAleer, Barry Murphy, Andrew Maxwell, and David McSavage.

Those who have seen John Bishop's Ireland will know how much the Liverpudlian enjoys performing to Irish crowds. The funnyman will make headline appearances across the festival in The Black Box, Leisureland and Róisín Dubh.

Australian comic Jim Jefferies

The comedy favourites have been added to the bill, alongside previously announced acts Jim Jefferies, Panti Bliss, Jimeoin, Omid Djalili, Rhys Darby, Reginald D Hunter, Mama Na Obrotach, Rich Hall, Serena Terry (AKA Mammy Banter), Emma Doran, Enya Martin, Danny O'Brien, John Colleary, Elena Gabrielle, and fan-favourite show, Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience.

Irish audiences will be particularly thrilled to see Aussie comic Jim Jefferies make an appearance as he delivers his new show, Give 'Em What They Want.

The stand-up, who has numerous world tours and a series of critically-acclaimed Netflix specials under his belt, has made a career of pulling audiences to the edge of their seats, covering taboo topics ranging from gun control and immigration to sexual harassment and sex work.

Another exciting addition to the October festival is the Queen of Ireland herself, Panti Bliss, who is set to sashay her way to Galway with her hit show, If These Wigs Could Talk.

Panti Bliss is coming to Galway

Fresh of the Dancing with the Stars dancefloor, Panti has been on the road with a show filled to the brim with salacious stories, impassioned polemics, and seriously funny soul searching, as she takes us from rural Mayo to London's West End, while pondering her purpose in this topsy-turvy world.

Of course, no Galway festival is complete without an appearance from the incomparable Reginald D. Hunter. The American-born comic brings his show, The Man Who Could See Through S**t, to this year’s event.

As Reg says: "If you're sick of all the contradictory answers being shoved at you by media, meet the man who is sick of all the questions. Come see me at a theatre near you. Rated 'R' (for Reginald)."

Galway Comedy Festival 2023 takes place from Tuesday, 24th to Monday, 30th October - find out more here.
