The Bear returns for a second season

CINEMAS: OPPENHEIMER/BARBIE

It's the biggest moviegoing weekend of the year, as Christopher Nolan's epic biopic of the father of the nuclear bomb goes head-to-head with Greta Gerwig's day-glo comedy, both showcasing killer ensemble casts... but which one to see? Simple. Both! Best. Double. Bill. Ever. (Cinemas nationwide)

STREAMING: THE BEAR

Yes chef! The second season of the critically acclaimed comedy-drama drops in one go, and we dare you not to binge the lot in rapid succession. No spoilers, but the feature-length sixth episode, featuring some rather spectacular guest stars, might just be one of the best things you'll see all year (Out now, Disney+)

EVENT: EARAGAIL ARTS FESTIVAL

Donegal's cultural gathering closes with a flurry of events, including a weekend of outdoor circus events in Gaoth Dobhair and an intriguing discussion event, Telling The Whole Story: Taking Our Place with Kit de Waal, Senator Eileen Flynn, and Annemarie Ní Churreáin, in Rathmullen (Various venues until July 23rd)

THEATRE: LIE LOW

Faye's afraid. She's not sleeping, she doesn't trust ducks and all she's had to eat this week is a box of dry Rice Krispies.... Ciara Elizabeth Smyth's dark, funny, and surreal theatrical exploration into the human brain stops off at The Peacock en route to the Edinburgh Fringe (Peacock, Dublin until July 29th)

MUSIC: FOREST FEST

Forest Fest promoter, Philip Meagher had a dream, to bring a three-day music and arts festival to a forest in Laois, with a line-up that includes Sister Sledge, Britpop trailblazers Suede, indie giants James, New York folk goddess Suzanne Vega, Scottish duo The Proclaimers and our very own Bell X1, amongst others (Emo village, Co Laois, July 21-23)
