An epic poem in conversation with the past and the present while always taking stock of what it really means to be human, Marina Carr's I Girl has been reimagined into a striking feature film by the visual artist and filmmaker Trish McAdam.
It’s called Songs of Blood and Destiny, and it stars Eileen Walsh, Cathy Belton and Brian Gleeson.
Narrative story-telling is put to one side, as figures like Joan of Arc, Antigone, Jocasta and of course, Oedipus speak directly to camera and recount their experience in a stream of consciousness.
All the while striking visuals are overlayed while these iconic figures seem to ask themselves what their lives were for, and whether it was all worth it.
Songs of Blood and Destiny has its world premiere this Saturday 15th July at the Galway Film Fleadh - Trish McAdam talks about the film to RTÉ Arena above.
