Heeeeeeere's Grace!
Heeeeeeere's Grace!

There's definitely a summer in it. And below, you'll find a quintet of our favourite cultural happenings over the new few weeks...

BEYOND THE PALE

After an impressive debut outing last year, the eclectic music & arts festival returns to the spectacular surrounds of Glendalough Estate with a headliner to die for - the incomparable Grace Jones, making her first Irish live appearance this decade, alongside upbeat pop heroes Hot Chip, Grammy-winning funkster Thundercat and electronic pioneers Jon Hopkins and Leftfield. The three-day bash will also host American soul legend Candi Station (on her last ever European tour), as well as top-drawer Irish performers like Pillow Queens, For Those I Love, Le Boom, Saint Sister, Mano Le Tough and Tolü Makay, plus cabaret, comedy, theatre, art installations, wellness, yoga and food & drink a go-go.

When and where? Glendalough Estate, Co. Wicklow, 16th - 18th June

KALEIDOSCOPE

This all-ages music and arts weekender offers a formidable music line-up that includes Nile Rodgers & Chic, B*Witched, Gavin James, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Newton Faulkner and the Dublin Gospel Choir, along with fun activities aplenty for all ages. While many festivals pitch themselves as 'family friendly', this one is the real deal, with plenty to keep the kiddies (and their oldies) amused.

When and where? 30th June to 2nd July, Russborough House, Blessington, Co Wicklow

CORK MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL

Head to the People's Republic this summer for 12 days of exhilarating theatre, dance and music, trailblazing ideas, joyous spectacle and much more; highlights include London's visionary string orchestra 12 Ensemble performing composer Max Richter's iconic re-invention of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons; Ritual, an immersive new spectacle from dance trailblazers Junk Ensemble, working in collaboration with acclaimed visual artists Jesse Jones and Aideen Barry and composer Irene Buckley; Sun & Sea, a Venice Biennale award-winning opera watched from above and performed on an indoor beach in Cork's City Hall.
