EVENT: SOUND! MUSIC & FILM FESTIVAL
Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny presents a new event celebrating the art of music and sound in film,. Highlights include screenings of a series of choice celluloid classics, presented with live musical scores, from the silent vampire classic Nosferatu (1923) to the Russian sci-fi masterpiece Solaris (1972). Other highlights include a conversation with author Sinead Gleeson exploring the work of synth pioneer Wendy Carlos, Irish National Opera's 'virtual reality opera’ Out Of The Ordinary and a special presentation of Ireland’s Oscar contender An Cailín Ciúin, along with talks, workshops and a special family screening of classic silent film comedy Sherlock Jr with live musical accompaniment from Little John Nee (Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, April 27th – 30th)
MUSIC: BALLYDEHOB JAZZ FESTIVAL
Fans of music and almighty craic will descend on the West Cork village to partake in its world-renowned Ballydehob Jazz festival this May Bank Holiday weekend, with a stacked line-up that includes singer, writer and storyteller Karen Underwood, Brooklyn-based singer and bandleader Tatiana Eva-Marie and the Avalon Jazz Band, and the Moonshine Shindig Club, featuring a live performance from Canibal Dandies playing old time jazz and blues classics. There will be craic, and dancing till late. As if you needed a reason to visit Ballydehob... (Various venues, 28 April to Monday 1 May)
EVENT: SALT
SALT is a multidisciplinary, immersive, ritual celebration of our connection to the sea as a coastal community, inspired by the gathered powerful personal stories of a community of sea-swimmers based in Kinvara from which a Choric Ode has been developed. SALT, created and led by theatre-maker Vanessa Earl is a collaboration with composer Robbie Blake, poet Mary Madec, featuring a choir of 60, a professional ensemble, vocalist Ceara Conway and light-art by Mick Murray. Performances will take place on on Tracht Beach in Kinvara and Ladies Beach in Salthill at 8.30pm, as part of Galway Theatre Festival 2023. Swimming in the sea afterwards is welcomed but not obligatory! (Sunday April 30th in Kinvara and Monday May 1st in Salthill)

It's 1984 and Ann, a pregnant teenager, awoke to realise that she was about to give birth, ending up in the Grotto of her local church. Shockingly two hours later, Ann and her baby would be dead. Writer-director Ciarán Creagh's new film shines a light into the last thirteen hours of her life, a girl alone abandoned by society, inspired by the 1984 story of Ann Lovett, a tragedy that shook the world.
