RTÉ Radio 1 Album Of The Week: Willie Nelson's I Don't Know A Thing About Love

The prolific Willie Nelson has released yet another new record, and it's this week's RTÉ Radio 1 Album Of The Week.

I Don't Know A Thing About Love is Willie's 98th studio album (his 73rd solo outing, to go with his 26 collaborative albums) - what's more, it's released a few months ahead of the country legend's 90th birthday.

I Don't Know A Thing About Love doubles as a tribute album to the songwriter Harlan Howard, a prolific talent who wrote more than 4,000 tunes, and who once described country music as "three chords and the truth."

What the critics are saying:

No Depression: 'Even when the songs are coming out of his mouth instead of his head, Nelson still delivers the goods like nobody's business but his own.'

The Arts Desk: 'Songs of lost love and hard times these may be, but they are, as Howard suggested, irresistible. The music bowls along, replete with the signature sounds and riffs of country music delivered by great musicians. The soft-shoe shuffle of She Called Me Baby demands to be on repeat, and the guitar and harmonica on Too Many Rivers transport you straight to the Ryman.'

The Scotsman: 'Howard found multiple ways to approach love, heartache and relationships as Nelson demonstrates across the ten songs on I Don't Know A Thing About Love, from the impish Tiger by the Tail via plaintive western swing ballad The Chokin’ Kind and the aching Streets of Baltimore to cost of living blues number Busted, previously recorded by Johnny Cash and Ray Charles, and delivered here with Nelson’s customary mellifluous ease.'
