On a beloved father, an air-traffic controller from the early days of Collinstown, now Dublin Airport - for Sunday Miscellany on RTÉ Radio 1, listen to Sing Like Swallows, by Jim Culleton above.
I was at the funeral recently of the fearless playwright and lovely woman, Jo Egan, in Dardistown Cemetery near Dublin Airport.
Before I left, I walked through the cemetery, and visited the grave where my father was buried, 20 years ago. Dad spent most of his life working as an Air Traffic Controller in Dublin Airport. He and his colleagues took great care in keeping us all safe as we headed off and returned from our journeys.

I love the fact that you can see and hear the airplanes landing and taking off, so close to you, when you visit his grave. You can also see the cemetery out of the window as you fly in and out of Dublin airport...
