Aoife Nic Cormaic, musician and presenter of RTÉ Radio 1's traditional music showcase The Rolling Wave, is January's featured composer in the Irish Traditional Music Archive's popular Saothar series.
This series showcases new compositions by contemporary composers in traditional music.
Each month, compositions from a featured composer are presented accompanied by recordings, transcriptions and interactive scores, as well as background information on the tunes.

Composition has always been at the heart of traditional music, and series like Saothar and The Rolling Wave’s commissioning project Faoiseamh, illustrate the creation of new music in the tradition is still as vibrant as ever.
