Virgin Prunes were without question one of the most unique and unorthodox groups that this country produced. Even with the passing of time, their music still sounds as unconventional as it did back in the early and mid 1980s.

2fm's Dan Hegarty celebrated the band's 1982 debut album If I Die, I Die and its 40th anniversary re-issue with Prunes frontman Gavin Friday on The Alternative on RTÉ 2FM - listen to their conversation above.

Recorded at the Windmill Studios in Dublin in the summer of 1982, If I Die, I Die was produced by Wire’s Colin Newman. It was originally released on the iconic Rough Trade label that would go on to release albums by The Smiths, The Strokes, and more recently Gilla Band.

The Alternative, RTÉ 2FM, Mon - Thu at 11 pm - listen back here.
