Here, viewers can find stories that are distinctive and different from any other drama on Irish television. These characters and their stories are daring, confrontational, contentious, shocking and surprising.

Storyland has always been a talent development space. The variety of stories this year demonstrates tremendous new Irish talent in directing and writing, with three dramas that have different styles and tones, each demonstrating new voices and visions in Irish television. These diverse and authentic voices demonstrate the craft and originality that will sustain Ireland's rapidly growing television drama sector.

Behind each of these dramas are new teams showcasing their opinionated and irreverent worldviews in strongly authored pieces showing the world from a stimulating and provocative viewpoint. Through Storyland, RTE provides a vehicle for emerging talent to capture the essence of modern Ireland and challenge our beliefs, exposing our assumptions, provoking our thoughts and defying our expectations. This year's themes include jealousy and rage, loneliness and despair, friendship, longing and social injustice, among many others, delivered through comedy and tragedy, suspense and mystery. And it’s not just behind the camera that new talent is being showcased, there’s a lot of exciting new acting flair on show too, stars of the future.

RTE’s commitment to Storyland has proven to be a hugely successful commissioning platform for fresh, creative ideas and emerging talent for the entire industry in Ireland. For writers, actors, directors and producers, Storyland has been an invaluable springboard. Past participants include, among many others; Thomas Martin (RAW), Kevin McGahern (Republic of Telly), Marie Caffrey and Nikki Racklin of Zanzibar Films (Cuckoo), Paul Duane, Rob Cawley and Gary Duggan (Happy Slapper) who went on to make Amber for RTÉ One, actress Charlie Murphy (Love/Hate) and Hardy Bucks.
