As part of Culture Night this Friday 23 September, the Arts Council is gifting over 4,500 books to passengers travelling on select Irish Rail and Bus Éireann services through a new project called Read Mór.
From 2pm, special 'book conductors' will be positioned at a number of bus and rail stations ready to gift passengers free copies of popular books from a wide selection of Irish and Irish-based authors, including Marian Keyes, Colm Tóibín, Nithy Kasa, David O’Doherty and more.
Passengers can choose from 21 different titles, including fiction, poetry, young adult and children’s books. Two Irish language titles, Madame Lazare by Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin and Beag Bídeach by Sadhbh Devlin, are included in the selections and audiobook versions of a number of books will also be available.
Anyone gifted a book is encouraged to share the joy of reading when they have finished, by regifting the book to a friend or family member.
Irish Rail intercity passengers should look out for book conductors on the platforms at Heuston Station and Connolly Station in Dublin, Kent Station in Cork, and Ceannt Station in Galway.
Bus Éireann Expressway passengers at Sligo Bus Station, Waterford Bus Station and Dublin’s Busáras will also have the chance to stop by the book trolley and pick up a free book.
