The Rings of Power - RTÉ Arena on the most expensive TV show ever

The long-awaited The Lord of the Rings TV series, The Rings of Power, makes its debut with a two-episode launch this Friday, streaming on Prime Video - RTÉ Arena takes a deeper dive above.

A mega-budget fantasy that has been years in the making, the series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before author J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and a time not yet explored on screen.

Budget estimates for the first eight-episode season range between $750 million and $1 billion, making it the most expensive TV series ever made. The first two episodes of the show arrive on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, 2 September, with the rest of the series arriving weekly after that.

Tune into RTÉ Arena live nightly from Mon-Fri on RTÉ Radio 1 from 7 pm - or listen back here.
