What inspires and drives the creative mind? John Kelly returns with five new programmes of The Works Presents, which explore this very question - watch them here via RTÉ Player.
Guests include innovative musicians, visually stunning film-makers, well-loved writers, unique composers and performers as well as politically-driven artists.
In conversations with John, these key creative forces, share insights into how and why they work in their chosen fields. John discovers what inspires them and how it drives them to create the works they make.
Watch: Jennifer Walshe's Libris Solar, created for Irish National Opera's 20 Shots Of Opera
In the last show of the current series, John talks to innovative and explorative composer and performer Jennifer Walshe
Walshe is an Irish composer whose work has been performed all over the world. Whether for a small ensemble, an orchestra, or in a full opera production, her work is known for its intensity, imagination and humour. In 2021, she was appointed Professor of Composition at Oxford.
Defying categorisation within the contemporary classical world, it combines, in radical ways, the fields of composition, performance, video and text.

She also performs frequently as a vocalist, specialising in what are known as 'extended techniques' – again working in the sort of adventurous territory that makes her a unique and trail-blazing figure in Irish music.
