Sunday Miscellany: The Wearing of the Green, by Rosheen Callender

A reflection on a mixed Irish, Indian and Pakistani heritage - for Sunday Miscellany on RTÉ Radio 1, listen to The Wearing of the Green, by Rosheen Callender above.

I usually wear a lot of green in the month of March. Not just because of St. Patrick's Day, but also because it’s Pakistan’s National Day on March 23 - a day that’s still celebrated, as well as its Independence day in August. Green is the 'national colour’ of both countries and I’ve always loved it. I wear it for my Irish mother; and for my father and his parents, who started as Indians but became Pakistanis in 1947.
