Basic Income for Arts scheme generates 'significant interest'

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has said there has been 'significant interest' in the Basic Income for Arts Pilot scheme, due to be launched in the coming weeks.

A report on the public consultation phase of the scheme is being launched today (Thursday).

Over 1260 responses were received, the majority from artists and creative arts workers with other submissions from organisations and members of the public, and the report found'positive and enthusiastic' support for the scheme.

Minister Catherine Martin said said she hoped the scheme will provide a key support for artists and creative arts workers as Ireland emerges from the pandemic.

E25million has been allocated for 2022 to launch the scheme and guidelines will be made available in the coming weeks when feedback from the consultation is taken into account.
