Jan Carson's new novel The Raptures (published by Doubleday Ireland) is set in the small fictional Northern Irish town of Ballylack in the early 90s - she talks to RTÉ Arena above.
The book focuses on ten-year old Hannah Adger, whose summer is thrown into disarray when her classmates start succumbing to a deadly and mysterious illness. It explores how tragedy can both unite and tear apart a small community, and is written with Carson's trademark empathy, humour, and striking imagination.
