Fiddle virtuoso Martin Hayes talks to The Works Presents

The Works Presents with John Kelly returns with a new ten-part series in which John meets key Irish figures from the arts - watch the latest episode here, via RTÉ Player.

Martin Hayes is recognized both at home, and internationally, as a master musician.

From his early days in County Clare, playing alongside his father in the Tulla Ceili Band, to his seminal work with guitarist Dennis Cahill, to the extraordinary success of the Irish American supergroup The Gloaming, he has been constantly exploring the music in ways that have taken him to unexpected places – working with string quartets, chamber orchestras and collaborating with artists like Paul Simon and Yo Yo Ma.

It's a musical journey that would perhaps surprise the teenage Martin Hayes, six all-Ireland titles already under his belt, and devoted – almost to the exclusion of everything else - to traditional Irish music – and in particular the music of one of its most celebrated sources, County Clare.

The Works Presents: Martin Hayes, RTÉ One, Oct 14th at 11.15 pm - enjoy more from The Works Presents here.
