Auguste Deter was born in Germany, in May, 1850 and she has some remarkable similarities with our mother. Our Ma is a May baby too, albeit in Ireland in 1937. Our Ma was also born into a working-class family and like Auguste, our Ma started her trade as a seamstress at the age of 14. Additionally, like Auguste, Ma got married to a kind man, had children and embraced the joys and challenges of ordinary family life. However, sadly, like our Ma, Auguste was diagnosed with dementia...
